End Sars

Police brutality. Police incompetence. Police "salaries". These are things most Nigerians have begun to see as a norm. It's like the people meant to protect us have become our own predators.

The Nigerian Police Force has in many ways fall our hands till the extent that we no longer get surprised at what they do. We act shocked but let's be honest, it's not something that's new to anyone. We can only be shocked at the extent of the brutality and we'll rant but they always do what they do. Which is continuation. This is better put by Patience Jonathan, "diaris God chai chai diaris God". When I watched the video when she said it, I couldn't laugh or find anything funny about it. She said it with tears in her eyes whether sincere or not, but the plight of those girls brought tears to mine.

I travel like to school by land and well whoever drives, packs a bunch of fifty naira. Sometimes, to amuse myself, I count the number of policemen getting fifty naira. This is not a new tradition. It's been on since ages before I was born o and I'm old a little.

So yesterday, my Dad got a PCRC stuff. It's something related to the Police Force and my area. I was shocked. I know we have a police station close by. Although since they moved I still don't know the new location. But honestly, I was shocked. Last year we had armed robbery raids a lot. Some people even had to move. A baby was almost killed as a threat to it's parents. What did our Police Force do ? Nothing. So the Residents held security meetings. Paid security fees. Had security members and vigilantes. Built gates. And the police were just there, blasting their yeye horns as they escorted important individuals. Even though this happened once in a blue moon.

I've told you guys, this story before. Of how, a car was parked by a pedestrian bridge. And the police force was called to determine whether it was a bomb. My dear, they came after the owner took his car. We sha laughed that day.

You should I know I love telling stories and I have two on this.

How many of you remember Reno? Better still how many of you can forget him? He was killed. Can you imagine the guts. Dropping a whole human being on the road for cars to crush him. His friend that was there told us what happened and the policemen who did that will be judged. You took a child from his parents, your children will be taken away from you. You caused tears to flow in someone's home, yours will be full and overflowing of it.

On a brighter side, my Dad was saying that when the youths in my village protested against the police, the police station had to be shut down for weeks. What happened o. So one guy came from Lagos and they searched him. They found dollars. And they took it from him. Baba asked where the money was going to and they didn't answer. He sha went. They didn't know that still water run deep. So this guy went to organize youths and they came in full force. They chased the policemen away. The policemen dropped their gun and fled. The police station remained closed for weeks. Why am I saying this? We have power. We are youths. If we don't do this today, we can't trust someone else to do it for us tomorrow.

I know most people are saying that we should End SARS but I believe the problem is beyond that. I can't forget the Aluu Four. The Policemen were there when those boys were getting burnt for crimes they never committed.

In my own opinion, the NPF should be deleted and reinstalled or better still updated. No old member should return. The guidelines should be stricter. Why do I always have to look at the batch of a Police Officer Everytime I see one? It shouldn't be that way. I should feel safe.

Ehn ehn, I forgot to add, from the testimonies of people or rather a person I know who survived kidnapping, don't let uniform deceive you o. You fit wear camo and no be soldier you be.

I believe in the power of the youth. I believe in the power of unity. I believe in the power of doing. And I stand with other youths and say Enough. Enough of all the lies. And excuses. We've had enough. How dare you tell us a snake swallows money? What guts do you have? We'll take you out and drop you in the streets cause you made it and that's where you belong.

Thank you all
