Lagos

Lagos. Say Ley-gos.

Lagos is a Portuguese word meaning lakes. Turns out that you have been saying Portuguese, longer than you knew.

The city of Lagos is the most populated city in Nigeria. It's a fun-loving place where the night never dies.  A one time capital city of Nigeria, it's grosses in a high percentage of Nigeria's income. It is the New York of Nigeria.

First thing to know if you want to visit or stay in Lagos, you have to be SMART. Taiwo wrote in Ghana Must Go that (mind you, I am paraphrasing). Okay here's how the story goes. A Yoruba lady married a Ghanian man. She went to see his family, and when they arrived at the airport in Accra, he advices her to hold her bag tightly. She smiles knowing that Accra na smalls. In Lagos, he who learns how to keep his bag, has learnt how to keep his life.

Second thing, stress. A part of me thinks that when we see Lagos in a dictionary or somewhere where words are collated, stress should be lying close to it. From the early rising, to the late sleeping and all the traffic in between, man in Lagos is stressed.

However, this third thing makes Lagos worth it. Have you eaten fresh fish or fresh crab before? If you haven't, believe me when I say you're missing a lot. Food in Lagos is diverse. From the moi-moi elemi meje (maybe it does have seven spirits) to the agege bread that has won my heart years ago, you are caught up in bliss and all your worries melt away like butter.

Talking about melting, Lagos is hotttt! Lagos is really hot! You think you can escape the heat by bathing? Lol πŸ˜‚. You are going to bathe with pre warmed water by the sun and believe me as soon as you towel off the water, your skin will be immersed in sweat. You may be tempted to become a swimmer cause what else can you do with the heat?

Lagos is one of the cities in Nigeria that you are invited to experience. When you do, please send me a souvenir.

(PS: A book is the best souvenir except you can bring me food, like agege bread)
