The First Day of Christmas

"On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, a partridge in a pear tree"

Wait, isn’t Christmas about Jesus and his birth? What’s does Christmas have to do with a bird anyway.

If there was an award for the best mother bird of the year, the partridge would be a very strong contender for the title. When a mother partridge and her chick is in danger, the mother doesn’t hesitate to give her life up, so that her chick can live. Does this remind you of a certain man who died on the cross?

This Christmas, we’re given the gift of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who came to earth with one goal, to take away all our sins and iniquities, and guarantee us eternal life. He gave his life up so that we may live.

The Partridge that came to save mankind in every way. Jesus was described as a man of many sorrows. I try to imagine that, he was carrying all of our sorrows. That's indeed a big weight but He didn't fall under it. He owned it. He tells us that; "Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."

FACT OF THE DAY: Gifts are shared during the Christmas season to symbolize the gifts given to Jesus by the three wise men.

He knows how to take care of us at His own expense. The Bible says He became poor so we would be rich. He was wounded for our afflictions. But you know the thing that still blows my mind? Is that He gave us His Name. So that whenever we call it, we see things happen. He gave us His Blood. He gave us everything so that we can live the way we are made.

Not only did He make payment for my peace of mind and yours so that we will fulfill our purpose in life. He's like the parent that supports your endeavor whatever it may be because they know it's what you are made for. So they use all they have to get you all you need for you to be who you are meant to be.

Why did He do all of this? He LOVES us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn't love to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. He's the One who gave all He had. He gave up everything He had and all He was so that you'll have a full life. He was a King who let those people spit on him, tear His clothes, beat him, and Kill Him all because of you.

The best gift to have is the gift of Christ and He has offered Himself to you.
